The 4Cs of Diamond Quality
4Cはダイヤモンドの特徴を理解するための基本です。数値だけでなく、光の表情や全体のバランスも大切にします。
The 4Cs are a starting point for understanding a diamond. Its light, balance and overall appearance matter alongside every specification.

Cut
カット
カットは光をどれだけ効果的に返すかを決めます。ブリリアンス、ファイア、シンチレーションに加え、プロポーション、研磨、対称性を見ます。
Cut governs how effectively a diamond returns light. Brilliance, fire and scintillation are shaped by proportion, polish and symmetry.
Color
カラー
ホワイトダイヤモンドはDからZまでの色評価で見ます。天然ファンシーカラーは別のカテゴリーで、色の強さと希少性が中心になります。
White diamonds are graded on a D-to-Z colour scale. Natural fancy colour diamonds are a separate category, where colour intensity and rarity are central.
Clarity
クラリティ
内包物と表面の特徴を確認します。多くは拡大しなければ見えず、カットや全体の見え方と合わせて美しさを判断します。
Clarity describes internal inclusions and external blemishes. Many are not visible without magnification, so assess clarity with cut and overall appearance.

ダイヤモンドの処理について
Understanding Diamond Treatments
一部のダイヤモンドには外観へ影響する処理が施されている場合があります。処理の有無は開示され、鑑定書と合わせて理解することが大切です。
Some diamonds may receive treatments that affect their appearance. Treatments should be disclosed and considered alongside the grading report.
基礎知識Introduction
処理は色や透明度の見え方を変えることがあります。未処理の天然ファンシーカラーダイヤモンドと同じものとして扱うべきではなく、内容と耐久性を正しく確認することが重要です。
Treatments can change a diamond’s perceived colour or clarity. They should not be represented as equivalent to untreated natural fancy colour diamonds, and their nature and durability should be understood clearly.
カラー処理Colour Change
外観上の色を変化させるための処理です。購入時には、どのような処理か、鑑定書にどのように記載されているかを確認します。
Colour treatments alter a diamond’s appearance. Ask how the treatment is described and how it is documented in the report.
放射線処理Irradiation
放射線を用いて色を変化させる処理です。開示と、適切な鑑定書による記録が欠かせません。
Irradiation can be used to change colour. Full disclosure and appropriate report documentation are essential.
フラクチャーフィリングFracture Filling
表面に達する亀裂を目立ちにくくする処理です。耐久性やお手入れへの影響を理解して選びます。
This treatment can make surface-reaching fractures less noticeable. Consider its durability and care implications.
レーザードリリングLaser Drilling
内包物へ到達し、見え方を改善するために用いられることがあります。処理の内容は開示されるべきです。
Laser drilling may be used to reach inclusions and improve appearance. The treatment should be disclosed.

Diamond Grading Reports
鑑定書は、ダイヤモンドの主な特徴を記録し、より納得のいく選択を支えます。
A grading report documents key characteristics of a diamond and supports informed selection.
鑑定書の基礎Introduction to Grading Reports
鑑定書には、重量、寸法、カラー、クラリティ、カットなどの情報が記載されます。多くのMIDダイヤモンドには、該当する場合にGIAを含む独立した鑑定機関のレポートが付帯します。
A report may document weight, measurements, colour, clarity and cut. Many MID diamonds are accompanied by independent grading reports, including GIA where applicable.
ダイヤモンド用語Diamond Lingo
テーブル、深さ、ガードル、キューレットなどの用語は、石のプロポーションと見え方を理解する手掛かりです。分かりにくい項目は、相談時に一緒に確認できます。
Terms such as table, depth, girdle and culet help describe proportion and appearance. We can discuss any report detail during your consultation.
蛍光性Fluorescence
紫外線下で見られる発光の性質です。強さや石の個性によって見え方への影響は異なるため、実物とレポートの両方を確認します。
Fluorescence is a diamond’s response to ultraviolet light. Its visual effect varies with strength and the individual stone, so consider the report alongside the diamond itself.
研磨と対称性Polish and Symmetry
研磨は表面の仕上がり、対称性はファセットの配置の整い方を示します。いずれも光の表情や全体の仕上がりに関わります。
Polish describes surface finish, while symmetry describes facet alignment. Both contribute to a diamond’s light and overall finish.
GIAは国際的に認知された鑑定機関の一つです。鑑定書は品質情報を示すものであり、金銭的な評価書や将来の価値を保証するものではありません。GIA is an internationally recognised grading laboratory. A grading report documents quality information. It is not a financial appraisal or a guarantee of future value.
